Successful RESEC meeting advocates more
social care funding
Monday 17 July
Allied Irish Bank hosted the Annual RESEC Midlands policy reception at their HQ in Birmingham on Monday 17 July
40 guests from local universities, several local authorities and the care plus health sectors head from two key speakers, Professor Bob Arnott, RESEC trustee of Green Templeton College at Oxford, and Dr Graham Betts, the lead social care director for Birmingham. The meeting was chaired by Professor Guy Daly, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Executive Dean – Health and Life Sciences), Coventry University.
Professor Daly commented ‘This was a useful session in which Professor Bob Arnott set out the historical context and contemporary challenges of providing adequately funded social care and Dr Graeme Betts outlined possible approaches including integration, devolution and personalisation. The general consensus of the meeting was that a new proposition needs to be formulated that tackles the chronic underfunding of social care currently.’
