Challenging discussion in Nottingham
Invited guests attended a well presented RESEC morning discussion on the 30th June 2016 hosted by Freeths Solicitors in Nottingham.
The topic for the discussion was the extent to which the ‘living wage’ has / will shape the immediate future of elderly care; how can providers mitigate a further burden to their operational costs in the face of falling local authority fees?
The Chair was Bhavna Keane-Rao, RESEC’s chair for England
The panel was made up of:
- Geoff Hodgson – Editor of social care management magazine ‘Caring Times’
- Andrew Long – Group Development Director of the LNT Group & ‘responsible individual’ for the Ideal Care Homes Group
- Laurence.Dowden – RESEC vice chair /Commissioning Manager Social Care Oxfordshire County Council
- Derek Breingan – UK Head of Health & Social Care for Clydesdale / Yorkshire Bank
The discussion – about the challenges that the care sector faces including funding issues and Brexit – raised more issues then answers. All agreed that more open and honest discussions were needed along with clarity from the policy makers. It was also agreed by those attending that further roundtable discussions were required.
